Halloween Kid's Books
October 29, 2008
When my legs are going numb from sitting on the floor and my voice grows hoarse from reading out loud, I remind myself how lucky I am to have kids that love books. Seasonal books keep them (and me) from getting bored with the same stories and peak their interest in upcoming events. Lately, we've been hitting the library and bookstores and finding books on autumn holidays. Here are some of their favorites:
Clifford's First Halloween Clifford may be giant but he's not scary so he is useful in teaching young children about Halloween traditions without spooking them. Emily Elizabeth helps her big, red dog learn about trick or treating and other traditions.
Hello Kitty Halloween Board Book is one of my daughter's favorite books. In this simple story, Kitty can't decide what to wear for Halloween and features various costume ideas. Kids love to point at the different costumes and shout out what Kitty is supposed to be.
The Cheerios Halloween Book My kids love this series because it combines two of their favorite things: books and food. The cute drawings include indentations where kids place cheerios to complete the picture. After the finish a page, they can gobble up the cereal. It is a seasonal book that my kids play with all year long.
The Bearenstain Bears Trick or Treat and The Bearenstain Bears and the Spooky Old Tree are two very popular books in our household. Our three year olds like being read the books (but get a bit fidgity towards the end) and our nine year old loves to read it out loud. The Bearenstain Bear series are classics that teach kids responsibility and safety lessons.
