Bald Eagle Watching on the Mississippi River

January 23, 2009

Every winter, St. Louis gets some very special visitors along the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers when migratory Bald Eagles stop here to eat and rest. These majestic birds often stop in our area because many water sources remain unfrozen and excellent hunting grounds for the raptors. Eagle watchers at the pedestrian/cycling only Chain of Rocks Bridge or other " Eagle Days" areas often see the  Read more...

Winter Swimming at The St. Peter's Rec Plex

January 22, 2009

We're suffering from cabin fever in our house and have decided to take our kids swimming at a local indoor pool this weekend to combat the in-house boredom. Our favorite indoor swimming destination is located in St. Charles County at the Rec-Plex. The St. Peters Rec-Plex Natatorium features a 130 foot water slide and a swirling vortex for older kids. There is a shallow area for young children  Read more...

Let your kids bounce off their winter energy!

January 12, 2009

It can be very challenging to entertain kids and let them burn off energy in the middle of winter. In the two weeks our children were out of school, their schedules were turned upside down with holiday parties, later bedtimes and sleeping in. Returning to preschool today was stressful for them and many of their classmates. Teachers and bus drivers agreed that most of the kids were "out of sorts" with some being more tearful and others returning to shy behavior that had disappeared after the  Read more...

It's cold and flu season again!

November 05, 2008

Unfortunately, we have entered cold, flu and RSV season in our part of the country. This will be our fourth winter with former preemies so we have gained a lot of knowledge about how to avoid common illnesses. While they are now 30lbs a piece and much stronger than in their NICU days, we still have to worry about respiratory viruses because they struggle to recover more than other kids. Last  Read more...
