Light up the night- local holiday light displays

December 01, 2008

Santa's Magical Kingdom is a 35 acre display in Eureka's Jellystone Park.  There are wagon rides through the park available as an alternative to driving through the park. In addition, the Santa Express Train is ready for kids to ride. Free pictures with Santa are also available for visitors. The park and display is open from 5:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., Sunday through Thursday, and 5:30 p.m. to 11 p.m., Friday and Saturday. Admission is $17 per car or $12 for wagon ride tickets.

The National Shrine of our Lady of the Snows in Belleville, Illinois hosts its yearly Way of the Lights display during the holiday season until January 4th from 5-9pm. The 1 1/2 mile drive through display has over a million lights depicting the nativity. Besides the light display, there is a petting zoo with camel rides and an interactive children's village.

The Avondale Heights subdivision home of Scott Reinhold is transformed every year into a winter wonderland with a professional level light and music display. The outdoor display is open to the public and broadcast on a radio station that allows visitors to tune in and listen along in their cars.  This year's display includes over 80,000 lights. The house is located at 730 Avondale, St. Peters, Missouri. More information can be found at Rehinhold's Winter Wonderland site including information on where other "well lit" holiday homes are located in the area.
